Prepare to Fight the Horde! Left 4 Dead 2 Review

What better way to crack a smile than to pump some zombies full of lead! This game is simple survive the zombie outbreak. You are one of four people (Ellis, Coach, Rochelle and Nick) using all available weaponry to get through 5 campaigns. There are pistols, shotguns, rifles and the occasional grenade launcher to pick as your primary weapon. Then you have anything from a frying pan to a chain saw to use and a melee weapon. Your goal is: slaughter zombies.

This game was done by valve, so if you have played ANY Half Life game you know just what's in store for you. The controls are rather easy to learn, and the gameplay is rather linear. Go from safe house to safe house, amassing an artillery and some medical supplies. After a while the game gets repetitive and it becomes a chore to keep fighting the hordes of zombies. The chit chat from character to character is amusing. There are points in the game where it gets frustrating, but nothing is to difficult to handle.

A great rental indeed!  If you are looking for a decent shoot em up with a zombie twist, that does not require hiding behind a wall from 4 hours and calling out commands to your team. Then this one is for you!

I give this one: 4/5

"I Looked at the Trap Ray!" Ghostbusters: The Video Game Review

Forgive me as I know this game came out some time ago, but it was one of the games I felt compelled to play at one point or another. So, I rented it from GameFly (AWESOME SERVICE! Highly recommended!)  For those who have not played this game yet...let me spare you 6 hours and tell you that to stay away from this game. Sure the rabid Buster fan will love the visit back to New York 1991 and to see the old gang again, however I a huge fan of the movies can say that the nostalgia wears off rather quickly.

The game is horrid to play at times and feels like a chore.  There are times where you sail through a whole chunk of the game only to reach a point where it takes you quite a while to accomplish a simple task of opening a gate.  The plot is tossed out the window in the latter parts of the game, as if there was such a detailed plot to begin with.  You will find yourself using the proton stream and boson darts for the majority of the game.

All in all it was fun to be a Buster, but the story and nostalgic feeling just couldn't compensate for the terrible gameplay.  If you do want to give this game a go, rent it.  Even at a low price of 20-30 dollars its not worth the purchase. After the story there is absolutely NOTHING to do in the game aside from collecting items/scans you might have missed or a terrible multiplayer feature.

I give it a very generous: 2.5/5

P.S. Pete Venkman was written as an absolute prick...

Nulla è Reale, Tutto è Lecito. Assassin's Creed II Review!

Your name is Ezio Auditore da Firenze.  You are an assassin in Renaissance Italy.  Your mission: Revenge!

I'm really not going to bore you all with all the details of the story because frankly there is too much of it.  So we start off as Desmond again, he breaks out of Abstergo with Lucy and then finds his way to a hideout; then enters the Animus 2.0.  We are now whisked away to Late 1400's Italy (Boy does it look great!)  After some short scenes we are on our way to the meat of the game!

It controls pretty much the same as the first. only much more fluid.  You are now given two hidden blades, not one.  You also have access to a wide variety of weapons, whether they be spears or brooms.  You can now poison people and gain access to a firearm much later in the game.  Best part of this game is the currency system, as it adds much needed depth to the series.  AAAAND water does not kill you!!

Aside from the occasional Free Run nuisances it plays pretty well.  Nothing in the game is impossible to handle,  Things might appear difficult but if you take a minute and plan things out the game becomes much easier to play.  Once you spend a few minutes in the beginning toying around with the physics and feel of the game it becomes natural to run across the vast landscapes.

Combat can be tricky at times, best course of action is to assassinate all enemies using the hidden blades.  If not Counter/Dodge/Disarm works wonders.

The detail is amazing!  When you reach the highest viewpoint in a given city and just toy with the camera you see just how much work was put into this game! Excellent work! Not much more to say about that

Get this game, you will not be disappointed.  The ending is a little questionable.  There is always something to do even after you complete the story.  Various side missions and glyph hunting to unlock "The Truth."  You can invest in your villa, and gain money on your investment.  There is much to do, but not so much where you feel swamped with side missions.  The Story is great,  the game looks beautiful.  Seriously though, who wouldn't want to control the deadliest assassin in all of Italy?

Rating: 4.5/5

This game looks amazing! Finally, the people over at Pokemon are bringing back the Johto journey to the DS/DSi; under the names Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I loved these games as Plain ol' Gold/Silver/Crystal. I wonder if the Kanto afterquest is still programmed into this game? Only time will tell. For now enjoy the Trailer!

It Looks Like the GuitarBand/RockHero Fad is Dying Out...

Before Guitar Hero and Rock Band was another phenomenon of the music gaming genre: Dance Dance Revolution. Konami's "dancing" game bundled a peripheral and captured the media's attention with its kinetic "exergaming" play. Over the years, the franchise has dwindled in relevance, as gamers got tired of stomping their feet to moving arrows. Each iteration of the series brought new songs, but the gameplay turned stale, and gamers eventually put their peripherals in the closet.

The same might be happening to the current slate of music games. NPD reports (via Gamasutra) that revenue for the Guitar Hero franchise have dropped 34% year over year. Even worse, the Rock Band franchise has dropped 67%. (Although, it should be noted that the Rock Band series has not had a major console release this year.)

Jesse Divnich of EEDAR argues that "the music and rhythm genre is being monetized more closely in terms of a pop-culture fad," which explains the increasing number of releases we see from the Guitar Hero franchise. He argues that the window of opportunity for making money is limited and that both Activision and MTV Games are "[striking] when the iron is hot." The upcoming The Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 may make a big splash this holiday season, but it might not be long until gamers put away the plastic instruments and look for the next big thing.

Ah I remember the first time I took my first steps on a DDR pad, it was fun stepping to high speed techno mixes of random hits. After 3-4 sessions it grew old very very quickly. I tried to reignite the fun by purchasing the new software, but I quickly learned that its the same thing over and over. Step on arrows, get a good score, pick new song. Lather, rinse, repeat. Much to my joy a new game launched called Guitar Hero! Now I could play the guitar to some of my favorite tunes. So I played and played and played and within about an hour of playing it, I got that old DDR boredom feeling. I was sick of this game as well...

Fast forward years later and we are on Guitar Hero 5 and there is a whole OTHER game out that DOES THE SAME THING, Rockband 2, nothing has changed, there is nothing revolutionary about these games, now instead of 1 guitar you can have a whole band! These are just novelty games, just like EVERY SINGLE BLOODY FPS HAS TO DO WITH SOME ALIEN/ZOMBIE/ROBOT ARMAGEDDON; AND YOU HAVE TO COWER BEHIND A WALL FOR 30 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY. OH AN CONTINUALLY PRESS UP OR LEFT ON THE D-PAD TO TELL YOUR GROUP WHERE TO GO! AND THEN A STRAY BULLET HITS YOU AND YOU ARE SENT BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME..../rant

The video game industry like Hollywood needs to learn when to let something go, they both grab a hold of a basic layout and go with it, since the matrix came out I have seen every actio movie follow in its footsteps. It was cool back in 1999 to have that format, but nearly 11 years later we still have the same shit, bullet time mixed with 400 explosions and you have the perfect Michael Bay Film.

This goes for the gaming industry too, Halo RUINED FPS games, that came out and then 12 more come out with the same storyline and a control scheme that you need 4 degrees in bio-mechanics and metallurgy to get past the training levels. These music games are the same, press green, red, blue, yellow, white, purple, mauve at the same time and strum, repeat process, over and over. There are SOO few games out there that I classify as great/good and MOST of them come from the classics era. I love gaming, however these days I am paying 60 bucks for an interactive movie, not a game, this has got to change.

I wonder if DJ Hero will pick up where RockHero leaves off...
